Pregnancy Massage Therapy
Pregnancy Massage is therapeutic bodywork that focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of pregnancy. Pregnancy massage often uses a combination of Swedish massage & Reflexology and can be one-hour or 90 minutes in length.
While a woman is pregnant, the demands placed on her body are great and dramatically ever changing. Pregnancy Massage is a safe, nurturing and effective way to reduce many of the adverse results of stress and the accompanying discomforts. Pregnancy Massage provides general relaxation, as well as, relief from some of the most common discomforts of pregnancy: abdominal pressure, allergies and sinus congestion, backaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, leg cramps, constipation, heartburn, edema, fatigue, headaches, insomnia, morning sickness, nausea, and sciatica.
Massage is recommended for all stages of a normal pregnancy and is most beneficial when received on a regular basis. Typically an expectant mom receives her massages on the same time table as her prenatal visits. For example: during the first trimester once a month is perfect, during the second trimester every two weeks, and once a week during the third trimester. Regular visits ensures the expectant mom is taking time for herself to relax and unwind, as well as, address any muscular discomforts she is experiencing during that stage of her pregnancy.
The other benefits of Pregnancy Massage are:
- Alleviates stress on weight bearing joints
- Increases blood circulation, which in-turn provides more oxygen and nutrients to the mother and the baby
- Soothes and relaxes the nervous system
- Improves sleep
- Relieves stress and depression by stabilizing hormone levels
- Addresses any specific areas of discomfort
- Offers emotional support and a nurturing touch to the expectant mom
- Assists the body in maintaining good posture and alignment as the weight of the baby increases
- Eases the load on the heart and helps keep blood pressure in check
- Offers a natural and more holistic way for pain relief
One-hour and 90 minute sessions are available. Before receiving a massage while pregnant please consult with your physician and disclose any conditions or concerns you may have with the therapist before starting with your Pregnancy Massage Treatment Plan.
